Alternate Curriculum
Direct Instruction Programs: Geared for students with Learning Disabilities. Features scripted lessons, choral responding, immediate feedback, brisk pace (This is what DI is all about, folks. All that and it works, too.)
Jolly Phonics: Multi-sensory, Phonics based program. K-2nd grade
Reading Reflex: Phonographic based program; great for tutoring any age; makes sense
Reading Rocks: Multi-sensory, sight word based program for students with autism, hearing impairment, speech/language delays, auditory processing deficit. Great for the visual learner. Comes with a lot of neat manipulatives!
Read Well: Combination program, including scripted lessons, phonics, and sight word recognition. K-2nd grade (possibly 3rd)
There are many more alternative reading programs available than there are alternative math programs. This may or may not follow from the fact that the research on 'Math' pales by comparison to the research on 'Reading.' Take a look.
